The Oppo Reno 5A smartphone has officially launched in Japan, bringing a feature-packed mid-ranger to the market with IP68 water resistance, a 90Hz display, and a versatile quad-camera system. Here is everything you need to know about this new device from Oppo.
Oppo Reno 5A Smartphone: Key Features and Design
The Oppo Reno 5A sports a 6.5-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 1080x2400 pixels and a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. The phone runs Android 11 out of the box with Oppo's ColorOS 11 skin on top. It features a punch-hole cutout for the front camera, keeping the screen-to-body ratio high. One of the standout highlights is the IP68 certification, making the Reno 5A resistant to water and dust — a feature rarely seen at this price segment. The device is available in two colour options: Ice Blue and Silver Black, and is expected to go on sale the month following its announcement.
It is worth noting that the Oppo Reno 5A is essentially the next generation of the Reno 3A, which launched last year at 39,800 Japanese Yen (approximately ₹26,600). Oppo has not yet announced official pricing for the Reno 5A.
Performance and Software
Under the hood, the Oppo Reno 5A is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor, which is a popular 5G-capable chipset in the mid-range segment. It is paired with 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of internal storage, providing plenty of room for apps, photos, and media. The Snapdragon 765G also ensures solid everyday performance for multitasking, gaming, and media consumption.
Quad-Camera System and AI Photography
The Oppo Reno 5A features a four-camera setup on the rear. The primary camera is a 64-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/1.7, which allows for bright, detailed shots even in low-light conditions. It is accompanied by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens, a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro lens. Artificial intelligence is built into the camera system to help automatically optimise shots. On the front, there is a 16-megapixel selfie camera housed in the punch-hole cutout.
Battery Life and Connectivity
The Oppo Reno 5A packs a 4000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. For connectivity, the phone offers 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS/A-GPS, NFC, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A side-mounted fingerprint sensor handles biometric security.
