The Microsoft Surface Duo 2 is the company's upgraded foldable smartphone, bringing a better camera, a faster processor, and a refined dual-display design to one of the most ambitious Android devices on the market. Alongside the Surface Duo 2, Microsoft also revealed the Surface Laptop Studio, Surface Pro 8, Surface Go 3, and Surface Pro X — all running Windows 11 — in the same event.
Microsoft Surface Duo 2 Specs and Price
The Surface Duo 2 went on sale from October 5 in two color options: Obsidian and Glacier. It is available in three storage configurations:
| RAM | Storage | Price (USD) | Price (approx. INR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 GB | 128 GB | $1,499 | ₹1,10,660 |
| 8 GB | 256 GB | $1,599 | ₹1,18,041 |
| 8 GB | 512 GB | $1,799 | ₹1,32,806 |
All three variants pair 8 GB of RAM with Microsoft's customized Android 11-based UI, ensuring a consistent performance baseline across the lineup.
Display and Design
The dual-screen form factor is the Surface Duo 2's defining feature. Each panel measures 5.8 inches with a resolution of 2754 × 1896 pixels and supports a 90 Hz high refresh rate for smooth scrolling and multitasking. Combined, the two screens add up to an effective 8.3-inch display surface. Microsoft has also added a slightly curved edge design, giving the device a more polished look compared to its predecessor. The company claims the Surface Duo 2 is the world's thinnest foldable device at the time of its launch.
Performance: Snapdragon 888 and Android 11
Under the hood, the Surface Duo 2 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC — a significant jump over the Snapdragon 855 found in the original Surface Duo. This chip brings 5G connectivity support alongside the device's Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 radios. NFC is also on board, enabling contactless payments and quick pairing. The combination of Snapdragon 888 and Microsoft's Android 11 UI is designed to take advantage of the dual-screen layout with purpose-built multitasking gestures and app spanning.
Triple Rear Camera System
One of the biggest upgrades over the first-generation model is the camera. The Surface Duo 2 features a triple 12 MP rear camera system consisting of:
- A wide-angle primary lens
- An ultra-wide-angle lens
- A telephoto lens
All three lenses benefit from OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), helping reduce blur in photos and videos. For selfies and video calls, a 12 MP front camera is built into the inner display frame.
Other Microsoft Products Announced Alongside
The Surface Duo 2 launch was part of a broader Microsoft hardware event. The company also introduced the Surface Laptop Studio, a versatile pull-forward display laptop; the Surface Pro 8 with a 120 Hz display and Thunderbolt 4; the Surface Go 3 for portable productivity; and a refreshed Surface Pro X. All these products ship with Windows 11 out of the box, making it one of Microsoft's largest simultaneous hardware refreshes in years.
If you're interested in other premium laptop and device launches, the Surface Laptop Studio is also worth a close look for its unique pull-forward hinge and studio-grade display.
