Google has introduced a new category of laptops called
"Googlebook." These laptops combine Android technology with the
ChromeOS desktop experience and are specifically designed to work with Gemini
AI. A standout feature of the Googlebook is its direct connectivity with
Android phones, allowing users to transfer phone settings, passwords, Wi-Fi
networks, and messages to the laptop. The lineup includes five models from
Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. They offer features such as OLED touchscreens
(up to 2.8K resolution), 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage.
Google has launched the Googlebook series with five distinct
laptop models: the Acer Googlebook 14, ASUS Googlebook 14, Dell XPS Googlebook,
HP Googlebook 14, and Lenovo Googlebook 15. Their designs incorporate materials
like aluminum, magnesium alloy, and carbon fiber. All models come with 16GB of
RAM, 512GB of storage, and a backlit keyboard. For security, they feature
Google Titan security hardware and a fingerprint reader; the HP and Lenovo
models also include face unlock capabilities.
Display and chipset specifications vary by model. The Acer,
ASUS, and HP models feature a 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen. The Lenovo
Googlebook 15 sports a 15.3-inch 2.8K OLED display, while the Dell XPS
Googlebook comes with a 13.4-inch 2.5K LCD screen. Regarding chipsets, the
models offer options between Intel Core Ultra 5 and Snapdragon X Elite processors.
NPU performance ranges from 45 to 49 TOPS, depending on the model.
The standout feature of the Googlebook is its seamless
connectivity with Android phones. During setup, Android phone settings, saved
passwords, Wi-Fi networks, and messages can be transferred to the laptop.
According to Google, this data remains protected by end-to-end encryption.
Additionally, a "Continue On" feature is included to allow tasks to
be resumed seamlessly between the phone and the laptop.
The "Files" feature allows users to view, search
for, and open photos and files stored on the phone directly from the laptop.
Meanwhile, "Cast My Apps" enables phone apps to run in windows on the
laptop screen, reducing the need to constantly switch devices between the Android
phone and the laptop.
Googlebook has been designed with Gemini AI in mind and
includes a feature called "Magic Pointer." Moving the mouse cursor
can trigger Gemini to interact with on-screen content—for instance, by
analyzing emails, translating text, or handling calendar-related tasks.
It also features a voice dictation tool called
"Rambler," which converts spoken notes and task details into
organized text. It supports multiple languages and refines the text by
removing pauses or filler words.
Googlebook offers the desktop version of the Chrome browser
along with its extensions. Users can also run millions of Android apps from the
Google Play Store. Support is provided for apps like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe
Lightroom, and CapCut, as well as streaming services such as Netflix and HBO
Max. For gaming, in addition to Android titles, users can play PC and AAA games
via GeForce NOW.
For developers, Google has included the "Antigravity
AI" development platform, which provides tools for building, testing, and
deploying apps. It also supports a full terminal environment, Claude Code, and
the Antigravity CLI.
For security, Googlebook incorporates Google Titan hardware
security and on-device malware detection. It also features a Level 5
security-certified pKVM hypervisor, enabling the operation of a separate Linux
environment. Google has committed to providing regular feature and software
updates for Googlebooks for 10 years.
The starting price for a Googlebook is $899 (approximately
₹86,000), though prices vary by model. Prices start at $899 for the Acer
Googlebook 14, $1,299 for the ASUS Googlebook 14, $999 for the Dell XPS
Googlebook, $1,299 for the HP Googlebook 14, and $1,099 for the Lenovo
Googlebook 15. Each Googlebook comes with a 12-month subscription to Google AI
Pro, 5TB of cloud storage, Gemini Advanced tools, and a three-month
subscription to YouTube Premium.
Pre-bookings for Googlebooks have already begun. Sales will
start on October 4 in the US and on October 5 in Canada, the UK, Ireland,
France, Germany, and Australia. No information has been provided yet regarding
sales or pricing in India.
